accommodations
Camping
We will have a site for tent camping nearby to the performances.
Attendees are encouraged to bring their own tent, but we have tents available for rent as well. If you would like to rent a tent, please contact us by April 20 to confirm, at +977-9818541893.
Local Homestays
In Ruma, the essence of homestays stays true to its origin, where hosts gladly welcome guests into their homes and treat them like family. It's a great way to experience the warm hospitality and friendship of rural Nepal -- an authentic, familial experience that more commercial accommodation modes don't provide.
Please contact us at +977-9818541893 if you plan to book a homestay so that we can get a headcount.
Please be mindful that these are not luxury hotels but personal, humble spaces that community members have opened up for you. You will likely be sharing your host's extra room with fellow festival-goers.
Homestays will be in the village's center, approximately 20 minutes' drive from the main stage. A shuttle will operate throughout the festival for traveling between the homes and the performances.
food
Meals will be prepared with fresh ingredients and love by members of the Ruma community, and will be available for purchase at a stall near the main stage.
A variety of foods are grown in Ruma, like maize, millet, spinach, and potato. Expect to experience and enjoy the traditional rural fare -- dal bhat, rice bhuteko, omelets, curries, pancakes, and more!
Those being hosted at a homestay will also have the option of taking family meals with your hosts.
travel
The Ruma Music Festival takes place in Ruma, rural village in the Myagdi region of western Nepal.
The remote and natural location is a 6-8 drive from Pokhara, but its scenery, with its majestic views of Dhaulagiri, and rich unspoiled cultural heritage of Ruma, are worth the wait.
Festival passes which include transportation to and from Pokhara are available for 9000 NPR.
For guests arranging their own transportation:
The closest airport to Ruma is Pokhara International Airport.
From Pokhara, the route passes through Beni and Darbang before reaching Ruma.
Buses can be taken from Pokhara to either Beni or Darbang, and regular autos can reach as far as Darbang.
For the last stretch, a jeep is required. Jeeps can be hired in Beni or Darbang.
We recommend leaving in the morning so that you can reach Ruma before sunset, and have time to stop for food and tea along the way.
What to Bring
To ensure a comfortable stay, we recommend bringing the following items:
tent and sleeping bag (if camping)
headlamp
warm clothes for night time
poncho or umbrella
insect repellent
portable power bank
folding chair or blanket for sitting
cash
Guests not wishing to rent a tent or book a homestay should bring a tent and sleeping bag as well.
We will have a charging station at the festival. We ask that everyone is considerate in sharing time at the station with fellow festival-goers.
Permits are not needed to reach the festival area.
